Zexe Braserie

In the interwar period, Bucharest had the most cafes and confectionery in Europe. But what happened to all this and how come, in 2011, the windows of confectionery stores in Bucharest looked like those of France in the 60s?

If things had evolved naturally, without an interruption of almost 45 years, we firmly believe that today we would be standing next to France and Italy, on the podiums of the great confectionery competitions.

The basic idea of our initiative at Zexe Brasserie is very simple: we bring in contemporary old Romanian recipes, which were the order of the day in all Romanian restaurants, brasseries and pastry shops from the pre-communist period.

Believe it or not, macarons reigned in the middle of Ecaterina (Colonel) Steriady’s book since 1875. And no, we are not reinterpreting recipes, but rather revisiting them. We make them the way they were, but with today’s ingredients.

So, we invite you to discover at Braseria Zexe a revitalized Romanian confectionery, full of balance, elegance and, above all... emotion.
