Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Șelari

The oldest mention of the church can be found in a document from the second half of the 17th century, in a document from 1677 (Nucet monastery charter), where the "Sf. Nicolae-Şelari hamlet" is mentioned. The leather workers’ guild (tanners) took care of it and named it the Church of Saint Nicholas, which they had as their patron. In the year 1700, the great glassmaker Șerban Cantacuzino (then became vomic), the son of the Drăghici butler and grandson of Mr. Șerban Cantacuzino, rebuilt the stone church, with the help of the merchants Iorgu Starostele and Apostol Lazar. Constantin Mavrocordatrepaired it in the middle of the 18th century. In 1802, the great earthquake of October 14 tore down the church, bringing it to ruin. In 1804, it was built with public aid.

Pisania mentions Hagi Gheorghe Polizu, Nicolae Zaharia, Gheorghe Dimitrie. In 1820, the church music printing house was established by Petre Efesiul, next to the "music" school, where Anton Pann also worked . It was the first church music printing house in the entire Eastern Orthodox world. In 1827 it was sold to the Metropolis. Around 1860, the church was shaky due to earthquakes and water infiltration. In 1867 the old building was demolished and in 1868 the new church was built, through public collection. Having insufficient money, at the request of ICBrătianu, Carol Ihe donated the sum of 10,000 gilvans from the patrimonial box, with which the building of the church was finished. The current church is built in grand style and painted by the well-known artist Gheorghe Tattarescu and renovated by the painter Traian Dancuș in 1971.

Between 1994 and 1998 , extensive substructure works were carried out, the outer concrete belt, new roof. In 1999, restoration work began on the painting by specialist restorers under the direction of master Ioan Darida.
